Print layout and Typesetting Expert

Full-time Salary Position (remote)

Bowen Imagery has an opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic graphic designer to join our team for remote work. We seek a permanent, mid-level graphic/communication designer to assist and lead external and internal projects. The position does allow for flexible scheduling with a general regular schedule in place, which may be adjusted and updated at any time.

You are an experienced graphic designer whose superpower is layout design and expert typesetting. You excel in presenting complicated information in a clear, logical hierarchy and never allow style to undermine clarity. You eat, sleep and breathe layout and typography, and geek out about grid systems.

You are a collaborative designer who sees the ability to work together with other people as the key to successful projects. You have extensive experience with editorial, magazine, and creative print layouts and understand how to set up complex Indesign master pages and books, including knowledge of pre-flight/pre-press.

You can adapt your schedule to meet demanding deadlines and are prepared to do what it takes to get a project completed in time.

(Having an adaptive schedule does not imply unplanned work hours will be required, only that schedules may shift per project as needed. This is a strong preference, but is not necessarily a requirement if certain schedule changes cannot be accommodated.)

We are looking for a mid-level graphic/communication designer to join our team to work on a wide-range of internal and external projects.

Daily activities to include:

  • Design and layout for quarterly non-profit magazine.
  • Design and layout for (digital and print) competitive proposals – attention to detail required.
  • Create innovative and engaging infographics.
  • Create brand logos and identities, learn the company’s brand discovery process.
  • Design and layout for product labels and promotional materials.
  • Establish graphic standards and templates for new and ongoing projects.
  • Create new assets from company image bank.
  • Create social media promotions.
  • Update company website, create graphics and promos.
  • Manage company asset libraries.

The position is not client-facing. You’ll be working directly with leadership to complete projects as they come. The ideal candidate would be a team player who can effectively take rough layout concepts and make them come alive with creativity and cleverness while delivering designs that communicate – even when the material is dry. The role requires the ability and love of collaboration, where feedback is constructive and freely flows.

This offer requires an employee-signed NDA due to the confidential nature of the work.

Minimum criteria:

  • US Resident (no international applications please)
  • At least five years of professional experience in print layout
  • Fluent in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Strong knowledge of setting up Indesign master pages, TOC, books, paragraph, and object styles
  • Competent typography and typesetting skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, with strong project management abilities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills

Bonus criteria:

  • Familiarity with branding and logos
  • Knowledge of preflight, exporting PDFs, and pre-press

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary range starting at 67K + full monthly healthcare stipend
  • Paid leave
  • Flexibility with schedule, self-led work environment
